Process Design

Pressure drops are set by an iterative optimization or according to process requirements. For a given number and length of tubes, the number of layers and dimensions of spacer bars, GENIUS determines the temperature and pressure profiles of the individual streams and calculates the distribution of the tubes
to the various layers.

All methods for heat transfer and pressure drop implemented into program have been tested carefully as well as confirmed in practice.

Linde´s own research is complemented by the evaluation of literature and cooperation with major research and development institutions like HTRI and HTFS.

Mechanical Design

Coil-wound heat exchanger
Coil-wound heat exchanger (CWHE)

Material selection and design of the exchanger is based on client's specifications and/or Linde´s own standards.

Computer programs are used for strenght calculations of pressure containing parts; weld and test plans are established as to meet various international standards and regulations as for example:

  • AD-2000 Merkblatt

  • ASME Code (U-, U2-Stamp)

  • National Board (R-Stamp)

  • British Standard

  • Druckgeräterichtlinie 97/23/EG (PED, CE-Zeichen)

  • Japan High Pressure Gas Control Law

Many features such as tube spacing, tube support, bundle support, flexible mandrel and the like are proven design developed over many years of heat exchanger manufacturing which are installed in exchangers being in service for more than 25 years.
