Acetylene is a welding gas for all types of metals. It is also used as a chemical intermediate. Due to its reactivity, it must be handled with extreme care.
Acetylene is produced by the partial combustion of methane. It can also be separated from the cracked gases produced by steam crackers. For environmental reasons, acetylene is no longer recovered from coal using the hydrolysis of calcium carbide.
We have developed a technology that extracts acetylene from the C2 fraction of cracked gases. This process uses DMF as solvent. Depending on the size of the steam cracker and the feedstock used, it can support capacities of up to 15,000 MTA .
Our technology is industry-leading. It has been utilised in more than 15 plants, including crackers that harness third-party technologies.
