Polyolefin Plants

In 2008, Tobolsk Polymer LLC, a 100 % affiliated company of SIBUR Holding JSC of the Russia Federation (SIBUR) awarded an EPC contract for a new Polypropylene Plant with the capacity of 500 kta to Linde. 

The PP plant in Tobolsk consists of 2 parallel lines each producing 250 kta PP per year from catalyst/co-catalyst feeding through reaction and extrusion and blending.

The technology for the PP plant in Tobolsk was provided by Ineos USA, LLC (Ineos). Ineos prepared the Process Design Package (PDP) for the licensed plant scope. Ineos are futher involved during the detailed design to review critical drawings and to participate in design review and safety review meetings.

The construction site in Tobolsk is located approximately 1,000 km east of the Ural mountings which separate Europe and Asia on the banks of the river Irtysch. Harsh winters with temperatures up to – 52°C limit the accessibility of Tobolsk by river for heavy load equipment to a period between May and September and require special precaution measures for all winter construction activities. In summer time, the unfreezing perma frost soil turns into a muddy ground forming a challenge to transportation movements and erection activities.

Due to these soil conditions, heavy piling is required to stabilise the foundations for most of the civil and structural objects. Together with the local construction partners, Linde will combine efforts to lead this project to a successful completion.

The anticipated completion of the Tobolsk PP project strengthens Linde’s ability to execute international projects on third party licenses and opens the door to step into the market for new polyolefin projects in Russia and abroad as a full and competent provider of EPC services.
