Linde Engineering is able to provide the full spectrum of geothermal power plants – from a turbine/generator package to a turnkey plant including a brine water loop; all under consideration of specific customer requirements on design, execution, fire and noise protection, emissions, etc.

The applied Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) process is most suitable for low calorific wells with a temperature range of 90 °C to 200 °C. It can utilise both hydrothermal energy from enhanced geothermal systems and process heat from industrial plants.

The ORC process converts energy provided by the client into electricity. Power feed-in is promoted by many governments worldwide.

Process steps include:

  • brine circulation

  • the ORC process

  • air or water cooling, and

  • district heating (if requested)

In addition to the above the Linde Gases Division is able to offer plant operation.

ORC process

In the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) the working medium (e.g. propane, R507, R134a) is heated by thermal water and pumped to process conditions – either in an undercritical or overcritical state. With the working medium flashed in the turbine it is subsequently reliquefied under the use of cooling water or air cooling. The generator that is connected to the turbine produces electricity.
