Helium is a rare gas which is mainly recovered from natural gas. High purity helium (> 99.999 %) is used for special applications in space technology and in superconductivity.
In order to attain high purity levels, helium must be recovered from the natural gas. Raw helium is recovered from natural gas in a cold box with a cryogenic process. Down-stream of the cold box, helium is further purified in a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit and liquefied for storage at temperatures of about -270 °C.
Linde Engineering offers a well proven cryogenic process for the production of high purity helium. Furthermore Linde Engineering is world leader in design and supply of PSA units. As a result of this combination of process design and equipment manufacturing capabilities Linde Engineering has accumulated a wealth of experience in designing and constructing helium production units all over the world.
