Helium Production

Helium is a rare gas which is mainly recovered from natural gas. High purity helium (> 99.999 %) is used for special applications in space technology and in superconductivity.

For reaching high purities, first raw helium is recovered from natural gas in a cold box. Down-stream of the cold box it is purified in a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit and liquefied for storage at temperatures of about -270 °C.

Linde Engineering offers a well proven cryogenic process for the production of high purity helium.  Furthermore Linde Engineering is world leader in design and production of PSA units. As a result of this combination of process design and equipment manufacturing capabilities Linde Engineering has accumulated a wealth of experience in designing and constructing helium production units all over the world.
