Any cryogenic gas separation process requires the upstream removal of H2S, CO2 and COS as typical sour gas impurities to meet the specification for clean products and prevent their plugging of the process equipment.
RECTISOL® is the most well known proprietary Linde scrubbing process and can simultaneously remove all above mentioned sour gas components in one process step. RECTISOL® is selected for almost all oil and coal gasification projects.

Linde can build other chemical and physical wash processes including various kinds of MDEA type of amine washes, MEA, DEA, Benfield, Sulfinol, Polar-1, Caustic, NMP, Alkacid wash and others. However, due to their number and various applications they cannot be discussed in this context.
Sulfur recovery
Gas purification by scrubbing results in the enrichment of sour gas components in the regeneration gas of the scrubbing unit. CLINSULF® is a catalytic process of sulfur recovery converting the H2S content of the regeneration gas into elemental sulfur by reaction with oxygen. The process is based on the Linde Isothermal reactor filled with a suitable catalyst. CLINSULF® DO (direct oxidation) and CLINSULF® Sub Dewpoint are the two configurations of this process that typically are applied to process off-gases from amine wash, partial oxidation plants, Claus off-gas or for the desulfurization of biogas.
