Linde harnesses third-party technologies to engineer world-class polyolefin plants, which polymerize monomer building blocks to produce modern commodity plastic materials such as polyethylene and polypropylene

Our offering extends along the complete project lifecycle for polyolefin plants, from feasibility studies and basic design engineering packages (BDEP) through front end engineering design (FEED) to complete engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) execution. We cover every step of the polyethylene production process, including raw material purification, catalyst preparation, polymerization, resin degassing, additive handling, pelleting, vent recovery, pellet blending and storage, bagging, palletizing and bulk loading. In addition, we can include all necessary utilities, off-sites and infrastructure measures in the project scope. We have executed a wide range of EPC polyethylene projects, including facilities with world-scale capacities of up to 800 kilotons per annum (kta). In engineering execution, the largest single train is designed for 650 kta polyethylene. We are an approved bidding contractor for both UNIPOL™ PE technology licensed by Univation Technologies, and for UNIPOL™ PP technology, licensed by W.R. Grace. 

Polypropylene plants – W.R. Grace Technology

Linde is a one-stop provider of polypropylene plant services, supporting the full project lifecycle right from the early feasibility stage.  Polypropylene plants are typically integrated into petrochemical complexes using olefin monomer as feedstock. Polypropylene plants may also be arranged downstream of on-purpose propylene production units or be erected downstream of refinery complexes which supply propylene streams as a by-product. 

We have in-depth experience in UNIPOL™ PP technology licensed by W.R. Grace. Our specialized team of UNIPOL™ engineers are in continuous exchange with W.R. Grace’s process team to ensure that the latest technology developments are implemented into our customer projects. A dedicated taskforce executes conceptual design studies, basic engineering packages, front end engineering designs (FEEDs) and cost estimates, actively supporting clients in their investment decisions. After successful erection of a plant, our team also provides expertise and support during the commissioning phase to ensure seamless start-up. On completion of the project, we hold joint lessons-learnt sessions with W.R. Grace’s execution team as standard. We are an approved bidding contractor of UNIPOL™ PP Technology licensed by W. R. Grace.

Polyethylene plants – Univation Technology

Linde is a one-stop provider of polyethylene plant services starting with early feasibility studies and continuing over the entire project lifetime. Polyethylene plants are integrated into petrochemical complexes together with steam crackers as a primary monomer feedstock source. Here at Linde, we optimize this integration process, recovering monomers from the vent and off-gas streams from polyethylene plants in crackers. Together with Univation Technologies, the global leader in licensed polyethylene technologies, we have developed a proprietary concept to seamlessly integrate the steam cracking process with the UNIPOL™ PE Process. 

In order to drive adoption of this concept, we also teamed up with Univation Technologies to bring new value to petrochemical producers worldwide. The cooperation agreement bundles our technology, engineering, procurement and construction (T-EPC) capabilities with Univation’s UNIPOL™ PE Process platform to reduce capital expenditure whilst increasing quality and efficiency for both new and retrofit ethylene cracker and polyethylene projects. We are an approved bidding contractor for UNIPOL™ PE Technology licensed by Univation Technologies. Beyond that, we have also entered into a cooperation agreement with Univation Technologies aimed at providing performance and cost efficiencies for the production of polyethylene resins.
