Boosted Payload for LH2 Trailers

Delivering liquid hydrogen efficiently and safely has become increasingly urgent. Our new LH2 trailer Europe makes it possible to transport up to 3.9 tons liquid hydrogen which makes it the largest LH2 trailer for the European market.

Liquid hydrogen transport trailer

Economies all over the world are accelerating their transition to clean energy, which in turn is driving increased demand for liquid hydrogen (LH2). Road transport is a key option for transporting that hydrogen - especially in regions that do not have direct access to pipelined or locally produced hydrogen. However, at a capacity of just 2.6 tons, traditional LH2 containers represent a true bottleneck in Europe, requiring more trips and higher costs for getting LH2 to end users. Moreover, maintaining LH2 at -253°C demands advanced insulation and energy-intensive handling.

The Linde Solution: Go Big

To address these challenges, Linde Engineering developed and launched the LH2 trailer in Europe, setting a new benchmark in hydrogen transport technology for the continent’s market. Engineered and manufactured at the company’s site in Schalchen, Germany, the trailer provides a payload of 3.9 tons, a 50% increase to standard LH2 containers.

The trailer features a vacuum multi-layer insulation (MLI), achieving a heat transfer rate of less than 100W . This ensures ultra-low temperature stability during transport, making it one of the best-performing LH2 trailers worldwide.
